Today was a busy day for the cadets! 7 went to run in the inter-wing cross-country competition and three went to a modeling show and competition at 1471 (Horwich) Squadron.

Inter-Squadron Cross Country
Cadet Corporals Greenwood, Pym & Sherrington and Cadets Bowden and Gillions represented the squadron in the A Category (Males, aged under 15 on the 1st September 2014), and Cadets Little & Sherrington represented the squadron in the D Category (Females, aged under 15 on the 1st September 2014). Both categories had a 3.5km course, with the B, C and E categories having a 5km course, but no 471 Cadets were entered in these categories.
The race started, and Corporal Pym took a quick lead over the first 200m to the first corner, before he was overtaken by Corporal Sherrington, and, along with three other cadets (including Cadet Gillions, formed the first clear leaders. Corporal Greenwood suffered with a bad back, and fell behind. After a lap of the lower field, Corporal Sherrington & Cadet Gillions were still in the lead group, with Corporal Pym around 10th position with Corporal Greenwood just behind, with Cadet Bowden in the main group, and in the females, Cadets Little & Sherrington were in the middle of the main groups.
After a tough second lap, including a steep hill, Corporal Sherrington (with a time of 14:20) finished first, with Cadet Gillions just behind in third. Corporal Pym finished around 4 minutes after Corporal Sherrington, and Corporal Greenwood battled on after his back injury, and finished a little over two minutes later. In the D category race, Cadet Sherrington finished little time after Corporal Greenwood, but unfortunately didn’t place. Cadets Bowden (A Category) & Little (D Category) finished a few minutes later.
Well done to all the cadets involved! We will find out soon if either category has done well and placed in the squadron competition, and huge congratulations to Corporal Sherrington and Cadet Bowden, who have been selected to represent the Wing in the Inter-Wing team!

“Unfortunately due to circumstances we were unable to complete the final positions of the your teams but this will be done over the next few days and the trophies will be awarded accordingly.” – Warrant Officer (ATC) Nash, Wing Sports Officer

A couple of cadets went to Horwich today to do some Modeling, we all built a spitfire and painted it for a competition, there was other squadrons there also. It was really good fun, to chat with other cadets and all round a great experience (Cdt Lopez).
