2014 Annual Formal Inspection

Tonight was our squadrons Annual Formal Inspection, or AFI, in which our Wing Commander (for Cumbria & Lancashire) and our Sector’s Squadron Leader review what our squadron has done over the year and rates the squadron out of 7. They also sit in with the Civilian Committee, and walk around the squadron, asking all the cadets about their time in the Air Training Corps and the squadron. On the final parade (at the end of the night), the Squadron Leader revealed we had scored a remarkable 6/7, which means we have very high standards!

471 Take to the Skies!

Today, 12 cadets from 471 (Hesketh Bank & Tarleton) Squadron went to RAF Woodvale, hoping to have the opportunity to fly a Grob Tutor 115E. The day started with a briefing and safety video, before being kitted out with a flight suit and gloves. The aim of these flights within the ATC is to introduce cadets to flying, helping them get to grips with the controls, and reading the instruments, which we hope our flight simulator at the squadron helped them with. Then, the cadets may have been lucky enough to be able to perform some aerobatics, such as Cuban eights, barrel rolls, loop-de-loops and many more!
